Day one stays close to Lisbon — Belém's Jerónimos Monastery and the Tower, the long sweep of Eduardo VII Park up to the viewpoint above the city, a riverside dinner as the evening comes in. Day two ventures to Sintra, where the palaces are genuinely fantastic in the original sense — the Pena Palace perched above cloud, the gardens of the Regaleira hiding their secrets — before coming down to the sea at Cascais for the afternoon. Day three takes a different direction entirely: north to Fátima, where the basilica square has a particular stillness, and then to the medieval village of Óbidos, its white walls and cobbled streets unchanged in centuries.
